How to Stretch a Buckled Carpet

Image
How to Stretch a Buckled Carpet When installed correctly, wall-to-wall carpeting stretches taut across the floor with no visible bulges or wrinkles. Over time, heavy foot traffic and repeated carpet cleanings can loosen the carpet fibers, leaving lumps and buckles. Once a ripple appears in the carpet, the rate at which the carpet wears out increases because the loose carpet pulls and moves every time you vacuum, walk or move your furniture. You can prolong the life — and the good looks — of your carpet through restretching. The tools you need are available from a hardware or construction rental store. Cleaning Oriental Rugs -Without Damage An oriental rug can add a special touch of class, warmth and charm to any living space. Just like Persian, antique, fine wool or other delicate types of rugs, an oriental rug needs to be maintained with special care. It is not made with the same types of materials as other regular carpets. Oriental rugs are usually hand woven with a different blend of natural fibers such as silk , cotton,  rayon and wool. It could also become an issue if you are prone to having innocent accidents such as coffee, wine or nail polish spills. This can lead to permanent stains. Chances are you paid a lot of money for your oriental rug, or it was passed down as an heirloom. As a result, it should be treasured and taken care of so that it is not damaged, and it can retain its value. Cleaning Basics Your number one goal is to ensure that your oriental...

It’s much easier to head off a problem before it takes root, than to fix it after the damage is done. So here’s lots of advice on how to stop dirt in its tracks. 1. Keep dirt on the mat Actually, what you want to do is stop the dirt in your tracks – specifically, on the soles of your shoes. There are other ways that dirt gets in – and in particular, you may be thinking of dirt that comes through the air and open windows – but what you bring in on your feet is of far greater significance. So use doormats at every entrance to your home, inside and out. Most of the grime in your home comes from the outside, the bulk of it coming in unnoticed on shoes that don’t appear to be either muddy or dirty. 2. Choosing the right doormat Choosing the right doormat will reduce the time you spend cleaning and chasing...
